Now accepting performers for our March show

March’s Battle of the Bards is still way the heck out there on the 28th, and we’re accepting performers until we fill up all the spaces!

As well, we’ll have a preview of KWLT’s upcoming production, “The Importance of Being Earnest.” That’s got to be more entertaining than Russ reading a Vagina Monologue (yes, this actually happened).

With all this going on, we may limit the show to ten performers this time around. So if you want in, you know the drill. Performance slots are handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis, so contact us to get signed up!

Celebrate Our Artists!

On February 14, 2008, we submitted a proposal to the Ontario Arts Council to take part in the Celebrate our Artists pilot project, scheduled for June 6-8, 2008. With a little luck, we’ll get provincial funding to promote and organize a weekend-long, non-competitive Battle of the Bards in the heart of Waterloo, similar to 2006’s Bards in the Shell.

The new event is tentatively known as Uptown Bards, as we hope to hold it in the heart of Waterloo.

We’ll keep you posted as things develop!

Press Release: Battle of the Bards works to create closer ties and aid Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre

Contributed by Anita Kilgour, February 12, 2008

As many of you know, KWLT has been working to get their theatre rebuilt. John Milne and Russ Wong have discussed things with the KWLT Board and are partnering with them, helping the theatre get rebuilt.

To that end, there will be a larger KWLT presence at Bards shows now, and vice versa.  Given that many of the Bards performers and audience are also involved with KWLT in some fashion, this is only a logical development.

The ticket prices will be going up slightly to assist in these efforts, rising to $8 in advance and $10 at the door.  All profits from the shows (cause we still have to give prizes for our wonderful performers) are going directly to KWLT’s Rebuild effort.

KWLT is close to being able to open the doors at 9 Princess again - let’s help push them over the line to be able to make it a working theatre!

Welcome to the new Battleofthebards.ca

Yeah, so I kept catching a lot of flak for failing to update the Web site before shows. As a result, and since John and I are now equal partners in this thing, we’ve moved to a Wordpress Web site so that both of us can update the site whenever it needs it. The site will hopefully evolve over time, and I eventually need to figure out how to add our logo, but for the meantime it’s better than what we had before, and that ain’t half bad.

Cheers!
