Summer Update

Sorry that we’ve been out of touch, but John and I have been busy with all sorts of things. The Bards-ecue on May 10th was fantastic, with beautiful weather and a lot of fun. Thanks to all who made it out; we hope to do it again either this summer or next.

Unfortunately, we won’t have the June 8th outdoor show that we had discussed awhile back. However, there’ll be a lot going on in the Waterloo Region that weekend, and you can check it out at www.spotlightfestival.ca. In particular, look for KWLT’s preview performance of “The Three Musketeers” in Uptown Waterloo.

That being said, if you’re free on Saturday, June 7th, Russ could use your help at another event: the Robin in the Hood Medieval Festival. We’re short on volunteers, and could really use some help for our 3-5pm shifts. If you’re interested, please e-mail volunteers@robininthehood.com and copy Russ at russ@battleofthebards.ca. We will be very grateful for your assistance.

And if you don’t feel like volunteering, we still hope you’ll come to the festival. It’s always a blast! www.robininthehood.com.

With the June outdoor show cancelled, we’ll take a break until Friday, July 18th. Russ will be your host, because John will be onstage with “The Three Musketeers”, which takes place on July 17-19 & 24-26. www.kwlt.org.

And don’t worry…we’re still working on an outdoor show if we can figure out when to hold it.

Bards-ecue 2008…but without the barbecue

The weather is looking great this Saturday for Bards-ecue, but we’re kinda lacking a barbecue at the moment, unless I do something drastic (which I’ve been known to do). We have barbecues available, but no means of transporting them. So if you can help out in this regard, please let us know! Otherwise we’ll have to rename the event so that we’re not misleading people.

To be safe, you might want to pack your own picnic baskets and coolers.

On a side note, we haven’t gained a lot of traction for the group sing-a-long, so we’ll make things simple: bring music with you. Chords, lyrics, whatever. We can share ‘em around and people can play together. It’ll be great fun.

See you all on Saturday!

Bards-ecue 2008 is almost here!

Bards-ecue 2008 is bearing down on us, coming up on Saturday, May 10th. We’ll hang out in the East Gazebo (by Silver Lake) at Waterloo Park and have a generally fun time, so I hope you’ll join us for the occasion! The weather’s looking a bit cool at 15 degrees, but we predict that the forecast will rise over the next 10 days to a balmy 21 degrees.

If you’re bringing a musical instrument, let us know. We’ll send out some songs and have a group jam session at some point in the afternoon. Otherwise, come with a picnic basket, a Frisbee, your knitting needles…whatever you’d like. We expect to have hotdogs and hamburgers for sale on a first-come, first-serve basis. If we can get a second barbecue, we’ll make it available for people to cook their own food.
