Call for August’s Show, and Some Great News for the Fall
We’ve got two things to tell you today.
1. We’re just under three weeks away from August’s Battle of the Bards, when show founder John Milne will return as host, following a successful run with KWLT’s performance of Three Musketeers! So we’re gonna need some great performers to do some great things on Friday, August 15. Who’s interested?
2. John and I have always wanted to expand Battle of the Bards and find new and different ways to reach a wider audience. And guess what? We think we found one. This fall, Bards will host its first-ever charity fundraising dinner: an evening of fun and laughs with fantastic food (definitely), prizes (maybe), and performances by local, amateur performers (necessarily). We hope to hold up 3-4 of these dinners every year, working with non-profit groups who don’t have the resources to stage their own events. All proceeds will go to the non-profit organizations, and the performers, John, and myself get that warm, glow-y feeling that comes from doing something you love and benefiting society at the same time.
To fill out the charity dinners, we’re looking for people to perform sets of up to 20 minutes in length or provide background entertainment. If you’re interested in being considered for our lineup, let us know and we’ll add you to our list. You can demonstrate your skills at an upcoming Battle of the Bards (August 15, hint, hint), or set up an audition if you can’t make it to a show.
And who will our first dinner be for? No surprise, really: it’s KWLT! We expect the dinner to be held at the Castle on King, with the date and ticket prices to be determined. Expect more details to come out as we figure out what we’re doing…I mean, deploy the fine-tuned processes that we’ve been working on for the past year.
Also, if you know of an organization that might benefit, let us know. We’re not talking about the Food Bank or other orgs that already hold their own big fundraisers…this is for smaller charities that need the
help.
That said, who’s in for August’s Bards?
